The Counseling and Mental Health major has been taught since the university was founded in the academic year 2008/2009. In the academic year 2013/2014, the Department of Counseling and Mental Health was officially established. The department offers various programs that aim to prepare and train qualified academic and professional qualified counselors to work in counseling in educational, psychological, health, and social fields. These programs help meet the needs of the local and regional lobar market. The department also emphases on increasing knowledge, supporting scientific research, and encouraging specialized studies that help develop psychological thinking and spread modern psychological ideas in areas of personal and community development. It also works to create public awareness about the importance of counseling services in improving quality of life, which supports better adjustment and mental health.
The department aims to become a leading scientific department at the local and regional levels. It seeks to continuously improve its programs and create new ones that match the needs of the lobar market. The department also plans to establish a counseling center that offers psychological, educational, academic, and career counseling for university students. It offers psychological and research consultations and prepares studies and research for both government and private sectors. The department includes a group of experienced and knowledgeable faculty members who support the research community, supervise graduate theses, and spread general and specialized psychological and educational awareness. This helps improve the university’s research ranking and strengthens the learning environment.

2. Preparing specialized and qualified staff—academically, psychologically, professionally, educationally, and technically—to work as counselors, psychologists, and researchers in different educational, psychological, health, and social functional fields.
3. Conducting scientific and field research in various psychological fields to develop research methods, enrich psychological knowledge, and provide appropriate solutions to psychological and social problems.
4. Creating a motivating learning environment that blends theory with practice and uses technology effectively, through modern educational facilities, training programs, and field training for students.

Building sustainable partnerships with the local community to support societal development and address its evolving needs, by promoting general and specialized psychological and educational awareness, delivering professional and evidence-based counseling services to individuals and institutions, and enhancing research practices in the fields of mental health and psychological counseling.
