The Faculty of Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence was established at the beginning of the academic year 2017/2018, alongside other Sharia faculties previously founded at the university. Its creation came in response to the need for specialization in the classical schools of Islamic law, and to address the urgent necessity of regulating religious edicts (fatwas) and countering the growing confusion and misuse surrounding them.

It is my honor, on behalf of the administrative and academic staff, to welcome the students of the Faculty of Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence.

This brief introduction presents the faculty, its departments, and its academic programs.

The faculty was established in 2017 to provide an in-depth specialization in the traditional schools of jurisprudence among Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah, and to respond to the pressing need for proper regulation of fatwas in a time when many have tended either toward undue extremism or toward excessive leniency and detachment from the Sharīʿah.

The faculty aims to integrate authentic traditional learning with modern academic learning, combining study of classical texts and original sources with contemporary methods of teaching and research. This synthesis ensures both authenticity in substance and modernity in presentation.

Particular attention is given to the study of areas of juridical disagreement—both major and minor—across the different schools of law, to develop the student’s ability to research emerging legal issues (nawāzil) and to propose sound Sharīʿah-based solutions grounded in the Sunni legal heritage. The faculty also seeks to cultivate a balanced scholarly attitude that distinguishes between blameworthy sectarian bias and unrestrained individualism that departs from the Sharīʿah under the pretext of intellectual freedom or rejection of traditional authority.

To supply academic and religious institutions, Sharia courts, and fatwa departments with qualified specialists who possess deep knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence in general, and of the Shāfiʿī school in particular, as well as strong research skills in one of the most widespread schools of Islamic law across the Arab and Muslim worlds. The college strives to achieve leadership and excellence, in constituting the educational attainment of the staff and structures of the Sharia judiciary, Fatwa departments and institutions of primary and university education and Sharia guidance, locally, regionally and globally, by reviving the original approach in teaching Sharia sciences according to contemporary scientific frameworks and achieving precise scientific specialization in the schools of jurisprudence. As an implementation of the Message of Amman, which aimed to revive pioneer Islamic doctrines and rely on them in Fatwas, work and judiciary.

Intermediate Diploma in Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence and Its Principles.

Bachelor’s Degree in Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence and Its Principles (On-campus Program for Jordanians and Non-Jordanians).

International Bachelor’s Program in Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence and Its Principles (for Non-Jordanians).

Higher Diploma in Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence and Its Principles.

Master’s Degree in Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence and Its Principles (Comprehensive/Thesis Track).

Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Shāfiʿī Jurisprudence and Its Principles.

The college's programs are considered as the first programs obtaining academic degrees (associate diploma, bachelor's, and graduate studies) in the Shafi'i doctrine specialization and its origins, at universities because it combines modernity and originality. It also organizes the authentic specialized teaching method, from ancient heritage sources, in a contemporary manner that is compatible with the international system of education, so that the graduate obtains an internationally recognized academic degree.

4-To meet the needs of Muslim countries by producing graduates specialized in their

own prevalent legal schools.

5-o meet the demands of the local and regional job markets by preparing competent specialists deeply rooted in the Islamic sciences

and capable of addressing extremist and deviant ideologies with sound,

scholarly reasoning.
